船用電纜的使用要求：
（1）電纜應適用世界各地及各種氣候條件的要求，能承受嚴寒，干、濕熱地區(qū)的各種氣候條件。
（2）船舶長期遠離陸地，對電纜的安全可靠性要求很高，如電性能良好、穩(wěn)定、不延然。在某些艙位敷設的電纜要求耐油性好。
（3）船內空間小，對電纜外徑和外徑公差要求嚴格。為便于安裝，要求電纜柔軟。某些艙位（如主機、鍋爐艙），溫度高達45-55，有的濕度高在95%以上，要求電纜耐熱、防潮、防霉性好。
（4）電纜安裝或移動時，拉力一般比陸地上大，且易受刮、擦等外力，要求有較好的機械性能。在甲板、桅桿上的電纜要求耐日光、大氣和海水的傾蝕。
（5）部分電纜要求有防干擾的能力。
（6）船用電線電纜的阻燃、耐火要求特別嚴格。
